About the Painting:
We all have our hobbies. Cezanne’s was painting almost exactly the same scene of people playing cards over and over again. He really wanted to get it right. Though the collection has 5 paintings, Paul created over a dozen studies as he perfected the craft of painting people playing cards. Snooze alert. We’ve taken his most refined version and spiced it up with adorable animals.
About the Paul Cezanne:
Paul Cezanne was the Marilyn Manson of his time. Now we know him as one of the most influential figures of modern art. Some of his lesser-known paintings are dark enough to scare grandma, because despite his family’s wealth, poor Paul lived a very sad life. So sad, that his best friend used him as the inspiration for an unsuccessful artist in a novel; he was both diabetic and clinically depressed. Poor Paul died from pneumonia, after collapsing while painting during a thunderstorm. Paul himself said “the world doesn’t understand me, and I don’t understand the world, that’s why I’ve withdrawn from it.”
He was just ahead of his time. Even Pablo Picasso thought Cezanne was fab.
