About the Painting:
Since the house of prayer was invented, choir boys have been really good at one thing: SINGING. This boy’s got his hat. He’s got his book. He’s got his tunic. He’s been ready to sing since the 19th century. Ask him for Madonna or Mariah, or even Pearl Jam, and he’s got you covered!
This portrait is perfect for a fur baby that likes to hear their own voice. Maybe you’ve got a “I was just fed but I swear I’m starving” kitty, or an “omg I’m the firetruck” puppy. Either way, “Reading Choir Boy” fits the bill.
About Louise Amans:
Louise deserves a bigger, brighter spotlight. She grew up in the late 1800s, when being a woman and a painter at the same time required brushing off a lot of judgements. She attended one of the only art schools teaching both men and women the same thing. There, she met her long-term art homie Augusta Roszmann. She would later rent a U-Haul and move in with Augusta.
By 31, Louise’s paintings had made it into the Paris Salon and the Swiss National Fine Arts Exhibition. She spent a couple years in the spotlight before her early, untimely death when she was 36.
